tacos!

You can never go wrong with tacos, especially on a hot and lazy Sunday afternoon...we love going to Torchy's because their tacos are tasty, the guacamole is fresh, but most importantly we can bring Pancho! The last few times we've been there, we were able to grab the same table in the corner, underneath the cool misters. It also helps that Kyle likes to feed Pancho ice cubes under the table the entire time...definitely worth dealing with the brutal Texas heat, in our humble opinion:)

cooking class

Instead of exchanging gifts for our anniversary this year, Kyle and I thought it would be fun to "give" each other a cooking class that we could take together. The theme was American Steakhouse, so we learned how to prepare a wedge salad (with fresh blue cheese dressing!), beef filet with béarnaise sauce, creamed spinach, and pan roasted mushrooms. We partnered with a lovely couple, Gerald and Elishia, and got to work...

Kyle being judged on his technique...can you guess what the instructor was thinking??

Gerald and I whipping up the béarnaise sauce...I was assigned the official "pan-holder" role.

Uh oh...the eggs in the sauce look like they are close to scrambling...

Yep. Scrambled. So embarrassing since we were the only table that failed, but for some reason I could not stop laughing...

After the second sauce attempt, we finally finished and plated everything...not too shabby! Actually it was pretty delicious and totally worth all of the blood, sweat, tears, and embarrassment that went into making it:)

Overall, the class was an amazing learning experience and I'm glad we were able to do something different other than the typical 'date night'. Kyle and I both agreed that we would be up for taking another class in the future (the Spanish tapas class looked especially exciting to me).

And if we happen to invite you over for dinner in the next few weeks, you can guess what we'll be serving...!

magnolia cheese shop

Yesterday, Kyle and I tried a new-to-us cheese shop that was only 10 minutes away from our house! Not only was the place super cute (think vintage furniture and mason jars), but we felt very French ordering our cheese plate that came alongside honey, fruit, and spiced nuts. While we thought they were all delicious, our favorite was a coffee and lavender infused white cheddar...who knew that combination even existed:)

hanging out with megan!

Over the weekend, my little sister came and stayed with us for a few days...I am always so excited when she is here! We had a blast together catching up, eating, shopping, and watching way too many guilty pleasure movies on the couch (Twilight saga anyone??). I also took her to the Fort Worth Zoo for the first time...where we got to see baby rhino, Asha, sunbathing in a pool with her mom:)

Come back soon Megan, miss you!

pancho at the park

Just a few photos of Pancho at the park from yesterday...we've been trying to take advantage of this amazing weather right now as much as possible. Unfortunately, the soon-to-be unbearable Texas heat is just around the corner...yuck. Hope you all had a nice Easter weekend!

weekend snapshots

It's been awhile since we've been to one of our bulldog meetups, but with all the gorgeous weather we've been having lately, we just couldn't resist. We met a cream colored Frenchie named Beefy...who was an even bigger ham than Pancho!

Spring has sprung! We've been busy buying flowers and planting seeds in our garden...this year, we are trying tomatillos and spicy peppers.

We stumbled upon the Fort Worth Water Gardens, known as a "cooling oasis in the concrete jungle of downtown". I've never seen anything like it...there was a quiet meditation pool, an aerating pool, and an active waterfall.

Kyle "tebowing"...

Yep, since I'm terrified of heights, this was the lowest step I could stand on without having a full-on panic attack. Nevermind that there were little kids running around everywhere...

madewell grand opening

The first Madewell store opened in Fort Worth today so my friend, Ribka, and I went to check it out during lunchtime. It was a lovely retail space filled with racks and racks of chambray shirts...which I couldn't be happier about. Also got to take home a cute little Texas tote too, woohoo!

sushi date night

Eating salmon hand rolls and practicing our awesome chopstick skills = the perfect little sushi date.

new obsession

A Trader Joe's opened up here in Fort Worth a little over two weeks ago...and I am a little embarrassed to say that I've already been five times. I can't help it...it is every bit as good as everyone says (or so I've read in the blog world for years). Every time I go I find something new that I can't live without...most recently French macarons! Favorites so far include their garlic fries and chocolate croissants. I think I'm officially hooked.

fort worth food park

With my cousin in town visiting, I was a little stumped with trying to come up with enough things for us to do to fill up the entire week. We had already visited an art museum, seen some cute animals, walked around town, ate some delicious burgers, and shopped our hearts outMuch to my surprise (and delight!), Kyle found an amazing little food park right here in Fort Worth. With a variety of food trucks, shaded picnic benches, and kids and dogs galore, it was the perfect place to kick back and relax. We ordered fried ravioli, braised beef+mac-n-cheese sliders, and dark chocolate and coconut cupcakes...everything tasted incredible. I can't wait to go back and bring all of my out-of-town peeps:)

A few iPhone photos from the past couple of days...highlights include:

*Hanging out with our friends Bobby and Eurjean (in town for a wedding)...so of course tex-mex and margaritas were in order.

*Celebrating Kyle's birthday with our favorite key lime pie.

*A whirlwind trip to Austin for Mother's Day...and to see friends!

*Getting to eat not one, but TWO cowboy tacos from here.
Best. tacos. ever.
