Back in January, I decided I wanted to throw Kyle a birthday party in Las Vegas and have all of his closest friends fly in and surprise him. Fast forward to this past weekend and it was a total success! Despite a few minor hiccups...
What was supposed to be an easy mid-morning flight out of Dallas on Friday turned into a +4 hour delay that left us stranded at the airport, wondering if our flight was going to be canceled. I was really nervous at this point and tried to hide my frantic texting from Kyle, since the rest of our friends had already landed in Vegas by then.
Miraculously we made it onto the plane and arrived at our hotel with 20 minutes to spare before we were supposed to head downstairs to the bar (where I had made a reservation). But as I was getting ready (at warp tornado speed), our friends texted saying that babies were not allowed in the bar, since our friends Kevin and Joy had brought their little one with them. Luckily, they were able to set up some tables in the lounge for us with a gorgeous view of the strip and the "SURPRISE" part went off without a hitch. Just seeing Kyle's reaction made everything worth it!
The pastry chef made us a delicious amaretto cake with homemade cherry jam and cream cheese frosting, Kyle's favorite yum!
Group photo minus our friend Chelsea who I think was in the restroom at the time?
We stayed at the Mandarin Oriental which I highly recommend...I mean c'mon, you haven't really lived until you've watched cartoons while washing your face;)
Breakfast was included so we ordered a yummy bento box to share the next morning...it also came with green tea and miso soup.
We tried the buffet at The Cosmopolitan and it was amazing!! Almost everything was served on small serving plates (think mini cast iron pans), which only added to the cuteness factor. Favorites included the crab legs, duck ravioli, and the Korean short ribs.
All-you-can-eat marshmallows and mango macarons! I went a little crazy...
Pretty flowers at Bellagio.
Instead of gambling, I chose to "lose" my money via shopping for expensive things:)
We also got to spend some quality time with our friends' adorable baby, Jason Oliver. Just look at those legs!
In the end, we were so thankful that our friends could be there with us to celebrate Kyle's 30th. I know it meant a lot to him because he kept saying how happy he was the entire weekend (and even after we were back in Texas), so thanks friends for making it so memorable and thanks everyone for reading!
P.S. See our other vacation recaps...
